Term 1 in Review

zone tennis academy crows nest
Thankfully, Term 1 has seen a vast improvement for Australia with regards to Covid-19 cases. Hopefully things can return to a much safer and prosperous environment for all.

Welcome to Zone Tennis

The start of 2021 has seen the rebranding of Wheatleigh Street Management. We now operate under "Zone Tennis Academy". Importantly, our Team remains intact with Troy and Luke McDonald still the Directors of the Centre. Two of our key team members Roger Rogowski and Rhys Jones have returned to the US to complete their commitments with US College scholarships. We are actively in contact with them in regards to their progress and wish them well with their tennis pursuits.

New Coaches

We introduce two new members to our Coaching Team in 2021. Chino Ahumada has extensive playing and coaching experience in Argentina. Chino has a passion for High Performance Training which is an asset to Zone Tennis Academy. Henry Farquharson also assists with all our programs. Henry is currently training full-time with his tennis pursuits and has been under Troy’s tutelage for a long time, ensuring he actively teaches our Zone Tennis principles. Earlier this year, Zone Tennis Academy was selected by Tennis NSW to provide coaches to the recent u/10s State Development Carnival. Troy and Phil Teagle provided valuable experience to some of the state’s best youngsters.

Other news

In another win for Zone Tennis Academy, we were selected by Tennis NSW to be operator of the entire Metropolitan North region to run ‘Zone squads’ commencing in Term 2.

We would like to highlight some recent results of some of our students, who have achieved some incredible results in Term 1:

  • Alex Morris has been selected for the National Academy
  • Michael Jeregui has made the NSW IPSSA State team. Leroy Sze, Owen Ng, Seb Dobson narrowly missed out on selection
  • Mia Jones has qualified for the elite u/14s Australian Clay court Championships

In other news

Loreto Kirribilli (which trains under Zone Tennis Academy) are competing in the Tildsley Competition. We wish Loreto and all our other members of our Academy who are competing all the best in the event.

Troy and the Coaching Team have been actively attending many tournaments and events this term. The Team are continually noticing that the most successful juniors at these events are demonstrating the best footwork and movement. As a result, Term 2 will have an emphasis on improving fitness and footwork.

Here is a link to an interesting article. The article reiterates our principles of ‘Zone Tennis.’ Peak Novak plays the percentages and hits less winners and breaks down his opponents with depth and accuracy.

Term 1 has seen ZTA welcome new members to the Academy. We are impressed with the attitude and work ethic that’s developing within our elite training squads. We look forward to seeing you all in the camps and at the UTR event in the holidays.
